This year the Summer is definitely not spoiling us... The sun comes out sporadically, and we get lots of violent storms and heavy rains. But I persist in being optimistic and looking for the signs of Summer wherever I go – and recently I got into the habit of taking shots of all kinds of garden and terrace containers with flowers that I come across. Here are my shots so far – an inspiration for your Summer oasis at home, I hope! I have found these in the Hortulus Gardens in Dobrzyca, my new favourite garden in Poland.

A lot of women in my family is afraid of frogs, but I think even they wouldn't say no to these frogs. A perfect proof that garden ornaments don't have to be kitsch and boring - quite on the contrary, it turns out they can be quite intriguing and original. I really like the fishing one and the one lying down with a book ;-)
So, do you think that such a frog would be a welcomed guest in your garden? It definitely would be in mine - if only I had a garden... And as you've probably guessed, I have found these in the Hortulus Gardens in Dobrzyca, my new favourite garden in Poland. Unitl today, I have always been dead against putting any sort of plaster or clay figurines in a garden. Somehow, they always looked kitsch to me. But two weeks ago a visit to the Hortulus Gardens in Dobrzyca proved me wrong - apparently, there is a kind of figurines you can strategically place in your garden, which will look not only attractive but also cute and disarming. In other words, I've completely fallen in love with those angels - and the one on the left is my absolute favourite. And here is the rest - they're simply irresistable, aren't they? And I'm back after a long holiday break, with lots of energy and lots of new topics to write about :-)
I'll start with the one thing which made the biggest impression on me this past month - the Hortulus Gardens in Dobrzyca. Yes, as you might have deduced from the name, these gardens are actually in Poland, not in Irelnad or Holland. And they're truly amazing - divided into over 20 theme gardens, they're simply overflowing with hidden corners full of amazing treasures. There's so much to discover, that even though the gardens are not very big, you may wander around in them for several hours and still keep finding corners you haven't seen previously! To show you what I mean, here are a few photos of the amazing details you can find there, and I'll certainly write more about Hortulus in the next week. And in the meantime, you can learn more at www.hortulus.com.pl. I love forests - especially the ones that look wild and overflow with abundant greenery. Who doesn’t? And Spring is probably one of the best times to go for a long walk through one of them – everything looks so fresh and alive, birds are singing and the mosquitoes haven’t woken up yet ;-)T
he town of Krynica Morska, where we’ve recently stayed for a weekend, was surrounded by this kind of fairy-tale forest. And of course when I wandered through it, I had my camera with me, so here are a few up-close shots of a beautiful forest which has finally woken up after the winter slumber. Tulip exhibition at the Castle in Malbork Remember yesterday, when I wrote that we didn't go straight home, but did some sightseeing on the way? Well, we went to visit the Castle in Malbork, a medieval fortress built by the Teutonic Knights. Till today, it's one of the largest and most impressive gothic castles in the world - but I'll write more about it later this week. Once we arrived, a nice surprise was waiting for us - it turned out that on this very weekend a Tulip Exibition was taking place. So today I'd like to invite you to my coverage of this event, which you'll find here - those of you who speak Polish, can both read the text and see the photos, and those who do not can concentrate on the latter ;-) Enjoy! This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar.
Hi everyone, I'm back from my romantic weekend :-) It was a long journey yesterday, since we did some more sightseeing on the way, but we finally got home yesterday evening.
The get-away was great, Krynica Morska off-season is a perfect place for a relaxing break - if you feel like abandoning for a few days everything city life has to offer. In return, you get the sea, beach, forests, lake and generally a lot of nature. Before I have time to write something more, here is a peek preview of a few shots from this area of Poland: And a change of plans again - my husband is "kidnapping" me for a romantic weekend at the seaside, to a small town of Krynica Morska, which is supposed to be a very picturesque one. We're leaving in about an hour!!! So please keep your fingers crossed for a good, sunny weather this weekend, and hopefully I'll get many reasons to take my camera out of its bag ;-) Poland is not exactly the Tulip Country - although apparently we are the 4th biggest producer of these flowers in the world - so when we organise a tulip exhibition, it's not a grand-size one. Still, the III Annual Tulip Exhibition which takes place this weekend in the Orangerie building of the Wilanow Palace is a good place to visit for all tulip lovers. Since these are indeed my favourite flowers, I certainly couldn't have missed it. The long exhibition building is scattered with glass vases overflowing with tulips of all colours, types, shapes and sizes. It's certainly a pleasure to watch, although the fact that it's extremely dark outside and the few windows do not provide much light (especially that it's cloudy and gloomy outside) made me grind my teeth in frustration - conditions for taking pictures: worse than bad... But since I got to look at hundred of tulips, I'm not going to complain here - let's just say that I'm far from happy with the photos below, but it's the best I could do under the circumstances. At least I have some sort of souvenir from the event and a few photos for you, to post on my blog. By the way - the tulips on the photo on the right are called "Happy Generation" and were my absolute favourite ;-) And which do you like the most? Today in Poland we celebrate Women's Day :-) It means that on 8th March every woman can expect to get flowers from the men in her life - a husband, boyfriend, brother, boss etc. And I have to say that the queues I've seen today in flower shops - composed entirely of men - were long indeed, which is definitely a good sign ;-)
So - to all the women out there - all the best wishes! You're amazing and gorgeous - never forget it! And these flowers - photographed in a florist shop in Rome - are for you: |
